The Calendar in the left side menu has been expanded.  Clicking it will still show all of the upcoming events, but now will also show sub-menu choices.  Clicking one of those will show only those events on a calendar.  So, for example, ASRDA related events such as delegates meetings, quarterly dance, etc. can ben viewed without everything else.

While Lessons is one of the choices, that subject is important enough that it will soon have its own Topics menu as well.  News about lessons and the lessons calendar will be included there.

For questions or feedback, use the Contact Us page.

    • The menu across the top, under the banner has been removed.  The links that were there are now in the Topics menu.
    • Signing up for the weekly email newsletters can now be found in Email Newsletters in the Topics menu.
    • Searching the site can now be done by visiting Search in the Topics menu.

Country Cuzzins, in support of the Club50 format, will begin conducting Club50 lessons Thursday, January 12, at 6:00 p.m., at the Marble Falls First United Methodist Church - our regular dancing venue. Lessons will continue every Thursday thereafter, same time/same place, and should be completed in about 12 weeks. Each lesson will last 90 minutes, then we will begin our regularly scheduled dancing at 7:30 p.m. Join us on January 12 and your lessons will be $45 per person; last chance to join in the lessons is January 19 at $55 per person (late joining fee applies). The lessons will be led by Wayne Weston, so you know it will be really well done! Come and join us!!!

Not sure you want to square dance? Find out how much fun square dancing is by joining us for our annual Open House event on January 5 at 7:00 p.m. You’ll see some great dancing, meet some really nice people, and eat some tasty treats - all for free!! Now you may be wondering about this “Club50” stuff - well, it’s a simplified system that is guaranteed to get you dancing sooner than you could have ever imagined. So, if you thought that square dancing was too complicated, your worries are over - Club50 is the answer.

Country Cuzzins dance at the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls (map) every Thursday starting at 7:00 p.m. until our Club50 lessons begin (January 12); then regular dancing will begin at 7:30 p.m. immediately following the Club50 lessons. The first Thursday of each month is our “Fun Dance” and we would love to have you join us then, or any Thursday night, for some really great dancing. You’ll be glad you spent an evening with your Cuzzins!

What an exciting Festival weekend! Were you there for the fun or did you miss out? Over 500 dancers attended the 54th Annual Festival weekend.

The Texas State Callers Association hosted a fun and lively Trails End Dance. The Brazos room of the Waco Convention Center was full of dancers. What a great "opening night" for festival. Celebrity callers Brad Caldwell, K.O. Jeanes, Wade Driver and Wayne Weston really had the dancers on their toes. Brad Caldwell was also the cuer for the evening. K.O. Jeanes was the winner of Caller Idol III. Be sure to ask K.O. to model his crown. Other contestants were Wade Driver and Wayne Weston. Great singing guys!

Pre-Festival on Friday was a lot of fun. Wade Driver, Bob Baier, K.O. Jeanes and Mark Prow called and cued a great dance. The Parade of Stars was a lot of fun. Celebrities seen in the parade and on the dance floor included Judy Garland as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Debbie Reynolds, Mae West, Jackie Gleason, John Wayne and many others. The night ended with dancing on the old Brazos River Bridge.

Festival Saturday began with dancing and the three panels. The fashion show was a delight. Nivia Wilson, Golden Gulf Coast SRDA, modeled the dress she wore in the TSFSRD 25th fashion show in 1987. (Wow – they both looked great.) The Andrews Sisters (aka Debbie Verhoef, Jessica Barnes and Rachel Barnes) performed Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Stu Ringer wowed everyone with his rendition of "Ole Man River" (from "Show Boat") and "Mariah" (from "Paint Your Wagon"). Ten Teen Scholarships were awarded during the opening ceremonies. The 2016-2017 TSFSRD officers were also introduced during the opening ceremonies. Everyone danced all afternoon and evening until their feet cried "no more!"

Sunday morning after devotional and the business meeting good-byes were said and dancers returned home to rest and dream of Festival 2017. 2017 Festival will be hosted by Red River Valley SRDA in Wichita Falls where we'll "Deck – uh Dance – the Halls in Wichita Falls June 8-11.

Are you ready for Festival? It's almost time only 4 more days until the beginning with the Trails End Dance on June 16.

It wouldn't be a road trip if you didn't find road construction and slow traffic. Lewis and Marilyn Chumbley and Phil and Janet Abel report that the I-35 road construction has reached Waco. A handy website to help with road issues is www.drivetexas.org . Lewis has this to say:

Construction on I-35 has reached Waco. We were in Waco a couple of weeks ago, and ran into a big traffic delay between the Comfort Suites Hotel and the Waco Convention Center caused by construction on I-35. I'm not sure how many of you are staying at the Comfort Suites or Hampton Inn, but you may want to avoid I-35. I have attached a map and directions on how to get to the WCC and back from Comfort Suites without travelling on I-35. You may want to print this off and keep it handy. I plan to bring copies to leave at Comfort Suites. Feel free to share this with any of your friends."

Directions from Waco Convention Center to Comfort Suites Hotel North without getting on I-35 (Red line on Map).
From the WCC Parking Lot turn left onto Franklin Ave.
Proceed on Franklin across the Brazos River Bridge.
Turn left onto Martin Luther King Blvd for about one long block.
Turn right onto Elm Street for a bit more than a mile.
Veer left onto Hillsboro Dr. and continue for about another mile to the intersection with Waco Drive.
Cross Waco drive and continue for one more block.
    Turn right onto Faulkner Lane.
Go about ¼ mile and Faulkner Lane will run into the I-35 Service Road.
Turn Right onto the I-35 Service road. The Comfort Suites will be on your right.

Directions from the Comfort Suites Hotel North to the Waco Convention Center without getting on I-35 (Blue line on Map).
From Comfort Suites parking lot, turn right onto the I-35 Service Road, then
immediately turn right onto Waco Drive.
Follow Waco Drive about 2 miles and cross the Brazos River.
Immediately after crossing the river, turn left onto University Parks Dr.
Follow University Parks Dr about ½ mile. The Convention Center will be on your right.

See you on the dance floor in Waco. Because Waco is the Scene for Twenty Sixteen.

As a reminder, all clubs are asked to support MidTex in three specific ways:

    1) Encourage all your members to pre-register and attend.
    2) Help with refreshments by bringing cookies and a bag of salty snacks on Friday evening
    3) Bring $100 to $150 in gift cards ($25 increments are fine) on Friday evening. We will bundle the gift cards into bundles of $250 to $300 to be door prizes. We will do this instead of having split the pots each night.

This is a reminder that each year the members clubs of ASRDA are asked to help with the success of the MidTex festival. This assistance comes in three forms:

    1) Encourage all your members to register and attend the MidTex festival.
    2) Provide assistance with refreshments. This year each club is asked to bring 2 – 3 dozen cookies and one large bag of a salty snack such as chips.
    3) Provide gift cards or a gift basket. The gift cards are combined with other gift cards into 2-3 bundles and are raffled off; and the gift baskets are sold by silent auction.

Please spread the word to your clubs and bring yourselves and Meet at the River on Friday May 1 and Saturday May 2 in San Marcos.
